Akureyri appeared on the list of British media The Guardian over the 40th "most magnificent" destination in 2018. The city is in partnership with cities such as Cairo, Tbilisi and Amsterdam.

Akureyri, which is listed first, is said to be a great destination in itself and a good starting point for travel around the country. In addition, it is mentioned that the weather is better than in the capital.

The journalist says the town center's center is full of interesting places, and he mentions the view from the church across the fjord. He also mentions nearby places such as Goðafoss, Mývatn and Bjórbadur.

British travel agency Super Break, which is scheduled for flights from the UK to Akureyri in January and February, has now decided to fly with passengers from the UK to Akureyri next summer, as well as next winter 2018-2019.
